Beth Phoenix & R-Truth Updates

> Prior to Monday's RAW, two-time WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix had not been seen in recent weeks. As far as her status is concerned, she is not hurt, nor is there heat on her. She's not in the title picture at the moment and they are looking to focus on the bikini-looking women on Raw for the time being. She was on RAW this past Monday but didn't have a big role in her match.

> R-Truth came up with the idea to do the "Pretty Ricky" character. He was apparently messing around doing the character on the road and some WWE people saw it, so now it's on national television. SmackDown creative writer Chris DeJosephs (a/k/a Big Johnson) is in charge of producing the skits and Vince McMahon "absolutely loves them." Quite like the movie Bruno, most of the stuff you see are legitimate reactions, such as the initial skit in which he tried to go over the merchandise seller's table to take stuff with security dragging him away.

Jeff Hardy Update post Night of Champions!!

jeff-hardy-world-champ

PWInisder reports the word going around at the PPV last night is that Jeff Hardy has agreed to stay on with WWE through SummerSlam. I don’t have that 100% confirmed but that is the rumor that was making the rounds.

Also, apparently Vince McMahon was not very happy about the opener and how it went over as he was seen throwing down his headsets at the end of the bout. Wow, who would have thought that putting Big Show in the spot of mystery partner wouldn’t have gotten the fans fired up?

Night of Champions Final Match WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
CM Punk (c) vs. Jeff Hardy

They're running short on time. Crowd was pretty quiet again, the Maryse - Mickie James match really sucked the life out of the arena

Punk was working Hardy over with kicks late in the match when Hardy reversed it into a twist of fate. He went for a swanton, put Punk got his knees up. Punk was able to hit the GTS and smiled as he covered Hardy, but only got a two count. He kept going for covers, but Hardy kept kicking out.

Punk went outside the ring and grabbed his belt and started walking towards the back. Hardy attacked Punk in the aisle and got him back into the ring. He hit another twist of fate, followed by a swanton bomb to win the match and the championship!

WWE Championship - Triple Threat Match
Randy Orton (c) vs. Triple H vs. John Cena

This being Philly, Cena got more boos than he's been getting lately as he came out. Triple H got a mixed reaction as well during the introductions.

Fans were really booing Cena as the match went on, even getting quiet during Cena's offense. It came down to HHH and Cena at one point, and it didn't have the heat that you'd expect. They went back and forth for a bit before The Game hit Cena with a spinebuster and followed it with a pedigree. HHH went for a pin, which was broken up by Orton.

The match went outside the ring, and Orton and HHH battled on the table, but the table was spared. Cena broke it up and went for the STF on HHH, but Orton broke it up and he and Cena battled in the ring. They traded blows, with the crowd giving a 'YAY' for Orton, and a 'BOO' for Cena's punches.

The finish saw HHH get Orton in a sharpshooter. While HHH had Orton in the sharpshooter, Cena got the STF on Orton, so he was in the STF and sharpshooter at the same time. Orton tapped, but the referee didn't know what to do and didn't stop the match. Legacy hit the ring. Cena got Rhodes up for the Attitude Adjustment, but Orton nailed Cena with the RKO to a big pop to pin Cena.

Winner and still WWE Champion: Randy Orton

Who is going to be Chris Jericho's New Unified Tag-Team Partner WWEAdikt Analyse the Possible Candidates

At Night of Champions, Unified Tag Team Champion Chris Jericho will select his own replacement for the injured Rated-R Superstar, Edge, and defend his gold against Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions. But which qualities will serve as criteria for his choice? And what Superstar could possibly measure up to the high standards of the first-ever Undisputed WWE Champion? In order to be the partner of Chris Jericho, the selected Superstar will surely have to be:

Justified
Educated
Ruthless
Isolated
Clairvoyant
Hypocrite Detector
Original
Surely only one Superstar could possibly meet this elite criteria and stand beside Chris Jericho at Night of Champions on his path. And that Superstar is…

Chris Jericho

But Surely that is impossible, WWEAdikt seem to think that it is one of the following 5 Superstars that will be announced as Chris Jericho's New Unified Tag Team Partners at Night of Champions;

  1. Ted Dibiase Jr (Turning Against Legacy)
  2. Chris Masters (Returning to the WWE)
  3. Randy Orton (Wants some more Gold over his shoulders)
  4. Jack Swagger
  5. Carlito (Turns against his Brother)
WWEAdikts' Prediction is Ted DiBiase Jr. We will be able to find out on Sunday Night at Night of Champions.

JR's Blog Update

Here are an few highlights from JRBarBQ website:

JR Talks Hosts for Allied Powers DVD:
I did think that Miz and Morrison were unique choices to host the DVD and that someone like an Arn Anderson amd/or a WWE HOF’er might have offered more of a historical slant to the production but as is often said, “This is a young man’s game.”

JR talks with Edge after surgery: I talked to Edge mere minutes after his Achilles tendon surgery last week and he had a more positive attitude about returning to the ring than most would. Edge has been faced with many challenges over his career and if any one can return and be as good as they were before they were hurt then it will be him. However, we should all be realistic about this situation as Achilles tendon injuries can be devastating for an athlete that maintains a schedule like Edge. My money is on Edge to return ready to rock, be more popular than ever and perhaps even possibly having a one on one match with Chris Jericho at WM26 which could be a show stealer. Yes, that’s all speculation but a guy can dream, can’t he?

-Bruiser Brody Anniversary of his death:
Hard to believe that Bruiser Brody was senselessly killed today in 1988 at the age of 42. The wrestler who stabbed Brody to death in a Puerto Rican shower at an arena was tried and found innocent. The judicial system works in mysterious ways. Brody was arguably the best all around brawler I ever saw and was also one of the most fiercely independent individuals who ever laced up a pair of boots. Insiders either hated Brody or they liked and respected him. I have friends who still can’t stand the late Frank Goodish and his free spirit but I miss the guy and always enjoyed being around him.

FreeBird Terry Gordy Passed Away: Also on this date in 2001 Terry Gordy died at 40 years of age. The former Freebird was the greatest in ring performer I ever saw when Terry was a teen. Gordy never lifted weights or participated in organized athletics or likely even graduated high school but his in ring timing and natural abilities were amazing. I have yet to see any one 16-17 years of age that even remotely compares to Terry Gordy nor any one in any developmental program or indy circuit. Read the full entry go here.

Ted DiBiase Jr on Legacy,John Cena & Randy Orton

ted-dibiase-jr

Brian Fritz of the Orlando Sentinel’s Between The Ropes has an recent interview with Legacy member Ted Dibiase Jr. Here are a few snippets:

Dibiase says he want to the The John Cena or Randy Orton of the WWE: I would say that I’m very blessed to be in the position I’m in and I have a lot of people to thank for that. I’ve got a long way to go, I believe. Like I said, I’m not happy at all with where I am right now. I mean I’m happy but I don’t plan on being here. I want to be the John Cena, the Randy Orton of WWE. If you don’t, you should just leave. That’s how much we love what we do. You want to be the best. That’s really cool coming from John.

How Ted works with being arrogant or cocky:
Man, that’s just life. When I get to the arena, it’s all about wrestling and work. When I leave there, I’ve got a wife. When I go home, I’ve got awesome friends. They help me keep balanced but we do live this crazy circus life where we travel and meet so many different people. You’re on the road and there’s always people asking for your autograph. If you let it, it can easily get to your head but I’ve also got my father who calls me every day and keeps me well grounded.

How Legacy is improving with the WWE fans:
Well, you know, there’s always that initial girl reaction. They like to cheer us. It’s probably because of Cody (Rhodes) – he’s kind of the Abercrombie pretty boy of the group. All of the girls like Randy until he does something horrific which he’s pretty much guaranteed to do every week. Legacy has really caught on. I guess a lot of people like us because we’re good but then they hate us because we’re good looking and we know we’re good. It’s a love-hate relationship with some people. Some people just really hate us.

The USA Networks Infulence on Mon Nite Raw

Newsweek.com has an interesting story about USA Network CEO Bonnie Hammer today. The article states that USA is the top earning network in the NBC Universal family, which is impressive considering that family also includes NBC. The article includes the following passage, which sheds some light on the way things are done in WWE:

"Unlike the network's boss at the time, Hammer fashioned a warm working relationship with WWE owner Vince McMahon. She also approached the wrestling franchise like any other show, offering notes on how to improve plotlines and story arcs. Hammer even persuaded McMahon to hire soap-opera and comedy writers, and used cross-promotion by casting wrestlers in USA shows. She arbitrated some of WWE's less tasteful tendencies: for one live episode, in which one wrestler used a machete to attempt to castrate an opponent, Hammer stayed on the phone with the cameraman while watching from home, instructing him on precisely when to pull the camera away. WWE's ratings, already high, soared further, helping push USA toward the top of the cable rankings."

JR Says Lawler will quit WWE, IF he becomes Mayor of Memphis....

lawler_ross

Jim Ross has posted the following on his JRSBarBq.com about Jerry “The King” Lawler running for Memphis Mayor. Lalwer will be quitting the WWE, because the mayor’s position is an full time job.
It looks as it the King is actually going to run for Mayor of Memphis as a special election is apparently going to be held in Memphis in about 90 days. The position of Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee is a full time position and one cannot hold another job, as I understand the matter. Jerry has often talked seriously, yes we did talk seriously on occasion on our many, many road trips together, about how he would like to do something positive for his hometown. Jerry certainly isn’t running for Mayor for the pay day but as an old school, public official who genuinely cares for his hometown and wants to make it better for all who live there. I heard an interview that the King made on a Memphis radio station where he talked about the grueling, weekly travel we undergo about 51 weeks a year for WWE and how that can wear on a person. ( I can definitely relate to that.) Point being is that Jerry has been announcing on Raw since 1994, with the exception of a short interruption in service along the way, logging some staggering miles. Plus, the King will be 60 this year and I can easily see Jerry Lawler being at the right place at the right time of his life to be a galvanizing force for the apparent racially divided Tennessee city of Memphis.

I had some fun on one of my blogs earlier in the week about King NOT running for Mayor. However, after communicating with Jerry, seeing how serious he is about making a difference in his hometown and his desire to help all the people of Memphis, I not only endorse Jerry’s candidacy but am very proud of him for wanting to do such an honorable thing for the people of Memphis. Jerry Lawler is no professional politician (My gosh I’m tired of political pros) and will likely not even raise significant money to fund his own campaign (which might prove to be his downfall). Jerry will also not be controlled by special interest groups. If the people of Memphis feel that they are tired of professional politicos and want objectivity and a fresh approach to improving their city, then why shouldn’t Jerry Lawler be considered as a serious candidate? Unfortunately, the person who spends the most money on TV/Radio ads will likely get elected which seems to be the norm in today’s political world and that’s a damn shame.

For Monday Night Raw fans, if Lawler wins the Memphis Mayoral race he will have to come off Monday Night Raw which would certainly end an amazing era that started 15 years ago. Jerry and I had approximately 12 great years together sitting at ringside every Monday night during the hottest period ever in WWE but as in all phases of our lives things change.

John Morrison on Feuding&Donald Trump

http://www.wwedaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/john-morrison.jpeg

Inquirer.net has an brief interview of WWE star John Morrison on July 10th with touring over in the Philippines. Here is the whole interview:

Is there any particular wrestler you want to have a feud with?

A: I would love to take on C.M. Punk. I think his strange lifestyle and goofy tattoos are stupid. Also, Chris Jericho. The biggest mouth in the WWE who just talks and talks but never actually does anything. I would love to wrestle with him.

How different is John Morrison outside the ring?

John Morrison is pretty much who I am outside the ring. I don’t have to yell at people to express my point of view. But in sports entertainment, to communicate my emotions to a mass audience I need to be larger than life so that people can feel what I feel.

How involved are wrestlers in developing their characters?

The best characters are the ones that we ourselves come up with. Stone Cold Steve Austin came up with his own persona, so with The Rock, John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, James Hardy and myself. When you’re trying to act like something that you are not, it becomes boring. That is not interesting to fans.

What is your take on Donald Trump owning RAW storyline? Do you think this helps a wrestling show?

It adds notoriety and interest. It makes national headlines. Just the fact that you asked me that question about Donald Trump proves people are interested in it.

Has the WWE ever told you not to execute certain moves or protect yourself more?

Here’s an analogy. In the United States, there is no law against riding a bike with no hands. You can ride your bike with no hands if you want to. But if you are not good enough to ride your bike with no hands and you try it, you are going to crash and hurt yourself.

Reys' New Tattoo Explained...

mysterios-new-tattoo

A guardian angel in your corner is a powerful thing for any WWE Superstar. And Rey Mysterio has assured that his protector of faith will always be with him, now that he’s turned a young fan’s kindness into ink for the creation of his newest tattoo.

“I was at an autograph signing,” Mysterio explained with a smile. “A little girl gave me a collage that she made of me with a prayer on it. She said it was a prayer that she says for me every night.”

“I pray every day,” added the Intercontinental Champion, who was more than a little touched by the gesture, being a man of enormous faith himself. “Before and after bed, before I fly and before I drive. It keeps me connected to God. It’s cool that people are praying for me and keeping me safe.”

As if fate had lent a hand, Mysterio’s new acquisition spoke to him at the same time that the dynamic masked Superstar was looking for his next piece of body art.

“I wanted a new tattoo but couldn’t decide what to get. I read that little girl’s prayer every day and suddenly it hit me. That prayer is definitely the tattoo I want.”

The tattoo, translated into English, reads, “Jesus Christ, you accompany me every day. I ask you to bless me and protect me every time I land on the mat because my life is always on the line. Never leave me alone. Protect me and be with me always. Amen.”

Edge Backstage Update!!

Although WWE released photos of Edge undergoing surgery on Tuesday morning in Birmingham, AL with Dr. James Andrews, the company has yet to issue anything new regarding his recovery and how long he is expected out of the ring.

According to sources, people close to Adam "Edge" Copeland say his Achilles tendon surgery went well yesterday and he will be forced to stay off his foot for around 10 to 14 days. After that he will be allowed to start walking while wearing a rehabilitation boot and start rehab around that time.

The initial thought was that WWE wouldn't acknowledge the injury until at least this coming weekend since Edge appears on Friday Night Smackdown this week and gets involved in the ring, but they decided against that. The next big question is where creative goes from here with Edge as a WWE Unified Tag Team Champion along with Chris Jericho and the two being scheduled for a title defense at Night of Champions between Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. WWE had long-term plans for Edge and Jericho as a tag team as they had worked on mixing both men's entrance music and created a dual video for the team. The company was also working to come up with a team name with some ideas being Team Ego and Team Rated Y2J. There was also talk after that ended that early next year we'd see an Edge face turn leading into next years WrestleMania.

The immediate reaction to Edge's injury within the company was trying to figure out a way to get the belts on Rhodes and DiBiase. Of course, they shot TV before the injury and had Ted DiBiase Sr. announce as the special guest host of Raw that no title matches would be taking place until the Night of Champions PPV on July 26. So it puts them in an interesting situation with TV the next two weeks heading into the PPV. It should be noted that Ted Dibiase Jr. is currently suffering from a shoulder injury at the moment, but the belief is that it isn't too severe and he was kept out of the ring at a few shows overseas in Australia as a result. The plan at one point within WWE was to have Edge come to TV and hand his belt over to Dolph Ziggler to give Ziggler a rub and a big push teaming with Jericho. However, plans always change in WWE and there have been multiple ideas between now and the next set of TV tapings this Monday and Tuesday so the plan with Ziggler could be off the table. There was also said to be talk of keeping The Colons (Carlito and Primo) together and editing off Carlito's attack on Primo from Raw this past Monday, but those plans changed since they ended up airing it as is.

WWE Confirm Edge Injury

The following is from Joey Styles of WWE.com:

WWE Unified Tag Team Champion, Edge suffered a tear to his Achilles heel tendon last Friday, July 3, during a WWE live event in San Diego. Edge's opponent was the man with whom he has traded the WWE Championship, Jeff Hardy.

Almost immediately after the bout started, Edge was in his corner when Hardy charged toward him. After attempting to leapfrog Hardy, Edge crumbled to the canvas. Hardy was backed off by the referee, who checked repeatedly with Edge before summoning WWE doctors and athletic trainers and instructing ring announcer Justin Roberts that because Edge could not continue, Jeff Hardy was the winner of the match via forfeit. WWE referees, athletic trainers and doctors then helped Edge to the back as Edge could bear no weight on his left ankle.

Edge arrived this morning at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., this morning to surgically repair the torn Achilles tendon in his left ankle. Dr. James Andrews currently has Edge's operation scheduled for 10 a.m. ET. Dr. Andrews has previously performed surgeries on WWE Superstars Batista, Triple H, John Cena, Rey Mysterio and many others. Andrews also consulted on NFL quarterback Tom Brady after his third knee surgery and most recently worked with Brett Favre for his possible return to the NFL.

WWE.com will attempt to have comments from both Dr. Andrews and Edge later today, including a timeline for Edge's return to the ring.

WWE.com will also investigate how this injury will affect the status of the Unified Tag Team Titles, as well as Edge & Chris Jericho's scheduled match with Cody Rhodes &

Ted DiBiase at Night of Champions.

With Edge out of action, what should happen with the WWE tag titles?

Layla El Interview

The Miami Herald has an brief interview with WWE diva Layla El. Here is the interview to it’s entirety:

”I’ve been back to compete twice now,” says Layla, a Miami resident. ‘This is where I’ve sweat through the good times and bad with the Heat in wins and losses. . . . I love coming back home, and I appreciate [fans'] support.”

Who is your favorite dancer?

“Actually, Michael Jackson, the Thriller video inspired me, started me in dance. I’d also say Madonna, Janet Jackson, J.Lo and Paula Abdul.”

Who from the boys in WWE is a good dancer?

“[The Animal] Batista is good. I’ve seen him dance. He’s got some moves. And Miz has the biggest head. He always thinks he’s good.”

Whom would you like to dance with?

“ R-Truth, to his rap theme song What’s Up!”

Former WWE diva Stacy Keibler did very well on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. Any chance of you competing on the show?

“She was amazing. I would love to be part of it. I don’t know how I would do because maybe they would expect more from me. Ballroom dancing is not my style, but I would really, really give it a good effort.”

Anything upcoming for you?

“It’s looking good that I will be a celebrity judge when the Miami Heat dancers have tryouts on July 19. I remember I was nervous when I auditioned. The Heat dancers are the best in the NBA, and I know what they’re looking for because I’ve been there before.”

JR's Blog Update

Here are a few highlights from Jim Ross webiste JRSBarBQ:

-The WWE is doing HUGE biz in Australia as we speak as the Raw brand is on tour “Down Under.” Brisbane had a near capacity crowd in attendance and grossed over $650K at the box office. Sydney had 18,543 in the arena which is a new WWE record for the facility. The event Monday in Adelaide was also close to capacity and sold over $550K in tickets. This international tour is going to be highly successful for WWE which should come as no surprise as Australia is one of WWE’s hottest territories. Even though the trips are all early morning flights and some of the flights are not short ones, the large crowds always motivate any performer and the live events have been really solid from what I have read and from the emails we have received here on our site.

-Sheamus, the Celtic Warrior, is earning good reviews while touring with WWE. Sheamus is a big, tough, Irish kid who has a discernible up side and could be a future star if he stays healthy and sane along with getting a little good luck. Sheamus formerly played rugby which isn’t for the faint of heart and speaks for the young man’s toughness.

-After looking more throughly at the recent 15 person trade announced on Raw last week, I think that two WWE Superstars will contribute in a big way to Raw, Gail Kim and Jack Swagger. I am a big Gail Kim fan and feel she can become, arguably, the hottest Diva on Raw which could well mean another championship for the young lady who grew up in Toronto and who now lives in Tampa. Swagger is a future PPV main eventer and even though that might be a year or so away from happening I think that it will happen. Swagger has the youth, size, and athletic ability to evolve into a great asset for WWE if he keeps working hard, learning his craft, stays out of trouble and off the injured list.

WWE Signs NEW Diva

WWE Signs Serena Deeb

WWE has added an extremely talented female performer to their roster. The company recently signed Serena Deeb to a developmental contract.

The 23 year old Virginia native becomes the latest person to join the WWE developmental program. She is expected to report to Florida Championship Wrestling pretty soon to begin her training.

Her training shouldn't take as long as other people because she was in the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental program, which is quite similar to the WWE style. Plus, her list of trainers (Al Snow, "Dr Death" Steve Williams, Robert Gibson, Danny Davis, Lance Storm, Tom Pritchard, and Terry Taylor) are as impressive as it gets.

Serena Deeb also spent the past three years working for SHIMMER, which is where most of the top female performers on the independent wrestling circuit work.

Closing Thoughts

Glad to hear that she finally got signed by WWE. She's one of those that actually want to become a professional wrestler. She's worked for years to get to that spot as opposed to just joining the company because she wants exposure for a career in the entertainment industry.

Jack Swagger to Raw

Former ECW Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger has been moved from the minor leagues to the biggest show in WWE.
Jack Swagger to Raw
On February 15, 2008, Jack Swagger and Ted DiBiase wrestled one another down in Tampa, Florida to determine who would become the first ever Florida Heavyweight Champion.
Many observers noted that the match featured two guys who could some day become major players in the main event scene of WWE. All eyes remained on them while they were in developmental together.
Management brought Jack Swagger up to the ECW brand on September 9, 2008. He was given an undefeated streak to build credibility. It didn't take long for him to become the ECW Heavyweight Champion.
It was clear that management saw something in Jack Swagger.
On Monday, the company decided to move him over to the Raw brand to see what he can do under the bigger spotlight. Jack Swagger is now officially on Raw.
Jump Start
Jack Swagger may be slightly overrated, but he is good enough overall to be pushed towards the top of the card on Raw. He's not ready for the main event scene yet, but he can be an upper midcard wrestler right now.
WWE needs to push him, and they need to do it fast. They need to quickly establish his credibility (a lot of Raw fans don't tune into ECW) and momentum.
To do so, it might be a good idea to have him immediately winning the United States Heavyweight Championship.
That's a title that sadly does not require a ton of credibility to hold. Plus, it fits into his All American gimmick to hold a belt that contains the word "United States" in it.
It might also be a good thing to leverage Randy Orton's momentum to help build up Jack Swagger. The company teased a little something between the two on Raw this week, so it wouldn't be a complete shock to see him align himself with Legacy.
People might complain that he doesn't fit into Legacy because his father wasn't a professional wrestler, but Jack Swagger does fit every other criteria for the group.
Potential Feuds
The following feuds are potential programs for Jack Swagger to participate in.
  • Kofi Kingston - Jack Swagger needs to "steal" the championship from Kofi Kingston. It will give him a belt to wear. Plus, there will be heat from the audience because he cheated to win the belt.

  • MVP - MVP's mic skills should enable this feud to do well. Plus, the difference in their background makes for some potentially great promos.

  • Shawn Michaels - After feuding with those two guys in the midcard, Jack Swagger should be ready to step up into the main event. No better person on the roster than Shawn Michaels to help him get there.

  • John Cena - WWE teased this program before on an episode of Raw, and it looked like it could be something special. Once Jack Swagger gets into the main event scene, this feud has to happen.
Closing Thoughts
WWE has to be very gentle with this thing. Push him too fast, and it could derail him. Take too long, and people could lose interest.
