Mysterio Responds

Rey Mysterio Responds

Rey Mysterio has finally responded to his recent drug suspension.

The former World Heavyweight Champion was interviewed by a Mexican newspaper recently. When asked about his drug suspension, he explained that it was a misunderstanding between WWE and he.

Mysterio stated that he was suspended for a medication that he was taking to heal his arms and knees. The popular masked superstar also stated that he did indeed have a prescription for the medication.

The former WCW and ECW star was instructed by the company to provide proof of the prescription by a certain date. Mysterio explained that he was unable to provide the proof since he was not informed until after he returned from overseas on a promotional tour for WWE. The deadline to show proof was a day after he came back to the United States.

Closing Thoughts

This is a "he said, she said" type of situation. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

WWE Confirms Next Weeks Monday Night Raw Host

WWE confirms Monday Night Raw’s host, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes.

Raw Host Dusty Rhodes

News on Beth Phoenix, Ric Flair and WWE interested in ROH talent

» WWE officials have soured on Beth Phoenix, though details were not specified. The former WWE Women's Champion went nearly a month without appearing on television and rumors started to surface that her future in the company could be in doubt. To add more fuel to the fire, Rosa Mendes was removed as her associate two weeks ago and instead paired with Carlito. Although, her victory over Kelly Kelly on WWE Superstars two weeks ago as well as her RAW tag-team win seems to contradict this report as performers company officials are down on oftentimes do not win on television. Fans of "The Glamazon" should take these victories as a positive sign.

» A major movie on the life of WWE Hall of Famer "Nature Boy" Ric Flair has fallen through due to negotiations with his representatives falling apart. Flair's attorneys asked that production be held back until 2010, but the production company insisted on not delaying the project. The idea of the 80s wrestling movie is still alive, but will not feature a character based on Flair's outstanding career.

» WWE has talked about signing four or five wrestlers from Ring of Honor. WWE's sudden interest in acquiring ROH wrestlers has much to do with the promotion recently shifting its weekly television show to Monday nights on HDNet.

BREAKING NEWS....Rey Mysterio Suspended for Drug Violation

WWE has suspended pint-sized grappler Rey Mysterio for breaching its Wellness Program.

A message posted on the WWE website stated: "In accordance with WWE's Wellness Program, effective Wednesday, September 2, Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) is suspended for 30 days for a violation of the company's policy."

This is not the first time Mysterio's name has been connected to drug use.

On March 19, 2007, Sports Illustrated published an article investigating steroid and human growth hormone use among professional athletes in several sports.

That article mentioned several current and former WWE stars, including Mysterio, who was alleged to have obtained nandrolone and stanozolol from an Internet website.

The suspension will take effect next Wednesday - likely to allow Mysterio to drop the Intercontinental Title in Cleveland, Ohio, at Tuesday's Smackdown TV taping.

DX Invades SummerSlam Intro:

A usual PPV video package opener begins for SummerSlam, when out of nowhere some hand puppet shadows start showing up. We hear HHH and HBK's voice saying stuff like "it's the PPV intro you can't do that" and they continue to make hand puppets. The video finally freezes, peals, and Triple H and Shawn Michaels walk in front of the camera with a blank white screen behind them. HBK tells HHH he used to be a TV repair man, and tells him he can fix the PPV. They walk towards the camera and a DX hype-video plays. It cuts out again and HBK and HHH are in front of the camera again. HHH asks HBK why he couldn't fix it. He says he forgot. HHH says the important thing is we got the message. HBK asks what the message is. HHH says you know, the message that "we're baaaack!" HHH looks into the camera and says start the show. The music and regular SummerSlam video returns and we go live in the arena with pyro. Jim Ross welcomes us to the 22nd SummerSlam extravaganza.

ROH Wrestler Signs with WWE

americandragon

PWInsider.com has confirmed that World Wrestling Entertainment has offered former ROH champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson a contract.

Danielson, considered one of the best pure wrestlers in the world from a technical standpoint, has been the nucleus of ROH as he’s been main eventing for the company since their first show in February 2002. Originally trained by Shawn Michaels and Rudy Boy Gonzales at the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy, Danielson has been something of a journeyman, learning and wrestling all over the world in Japan, Great Britain, Mexico and other countries, as well as training in MMA to create his own unique mesh of styles.

Danielson was under a WWE developmental deal early in his career when the system was based out of Memphis, but was later released. He’s long considered William Regal one of his mentors and has been considered the best in-ring performer not signed to a national company for several years running and has given ROH a number of legitimate classics over the years with everyone from Jushin Liger to KENTA to Paul London to Austin Aries to Samoa Joe, among others.

Danielson was signed to an ROH contract when the company debuted on PPV, but earlier this year opted not to sign a contract extension. He’s continued to work for the company since then as an independent contractor.

Jeff Hardy Gives Notice to the WWE

jeff-hardy-world-champ

We can now confirm that Jeff Hardy will be leaving the WWE within the next month or so. Jeff Hardy gave his notice and informed the WWE that he was leaving due to scheduling conflicts, mainly wanting to work less days. Vince McMahon has informed the creative team to scrap future plans with Jeff Hardy and to create an angle for the Undertaker’s comback who will fill in for Hardy.

As of right now, Hardy will have his last WWE appearance at either SummerSlam this Sunday or the SmackDown tapings on Thursday.

Summerslam - The Card Rundown

MVP vs. Jack Swagger: Let's hope this one lasts longer than their two minute encounter on Raw this past Monday. The story here is Swagger, being the All-American American, can't stand that fans cheer for MVP, who previously did jail time. WWE has high hopes for these two in the future; let's hope they can deliver the goods.

Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler for the IC title: This is a rematch from Night of Champions. I enjoyed their first PPV meeting, and now with the naughty but nice Maria at Dolph's side, look for Ziggler to walk out with the gold.

Christian vs. William Regal for the ECW title: It's great to see the man billed from Blackpool, England back in the title picture. Look for Regal to fly the British flag to capture the ECW title from Captain Charisma. Regal's new apparent followers - Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov could be the deciding factor.

Kane vs. Great Khali: Don't expect this one to be a catch-as-catch-can classic, but these two behemoths should provide a few bangs for your buck. You won't know, as TV bosses edited the segment during UK airings, but Kane kidnapped Khali's handler Ranjin Singh last week on Smackdown. While he was being held hostage, it was revealed that Ranjin and Khali were "brothers". Expect Khali to gain some measure of revenge for his blood.

Chris Jericho & Big Show vs. Cryme Tyme for the tag titles: JTG and Shad make their Summerslam debuts against Y2J and the largest athlete on the planet. The last time these teams met it ended with NBA Legend Shaquille O'Neal humiliating Show by forcing him out of the ring with a shoulder charge. I fear the former World Heavyweight champs may be too much for the guys who like that money, money. Yeah yeah.

D-Generation X vs. The Legacy: Triple H has recruited his old running buddy to help him take care of business. I don't care much for the writing teams lame attempt at DX humour, but anything involving HBK is okay by me. This will be Michaels first TV match since his epic battle with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25. DX was cool ten years ao, but this is now and the young Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. should go over. Sadly, that won't be the case. The returning DX will take this one hands down, and sell lots of T-shirts and glow sticks while doing it.

Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the WWE title: Arguably the top heel and babyface in the company right now. These two met at Summerslam two years ago. Cena successfully defended the title on that occasion after he kicked out of an RKO and hit Orton with his Attitude Adjustment. This time around Orton is the champion, with all the momentum on his side. Flip a coin, but I'll go with Orton to retain.

Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the World title: This will be the eighth TLC match in the history of WWE, and Punk's first, so one would naturally give the nod to Hardy. However, Hardy has never won a match at Summerslam in four attempts. And, according to many industry insiders, he will soon be taking extended time off. This match will steal the show but I can't see the death-defying Jeff Hardy keeping his title.

Kane promo. Typical Kane promo. Khali has compassion he doesn't. Blah blah. Khali runs out and beats on Kane a bit before he bails.

Knox vs. Finlay is next. Finlay wins by DQ when Knox doesn't break at 5. Afterward Knox destroys Finlay with the ringsteps...Jeff Hardy promo up next.

Hardy says he was advised by doctors to retire but he won't. Punk interrupts and says Summerslam will be Hardy's last match. Hardy gives Punk The Twist of Fate.

Maria and Melina vs. Layla and Natalya is next. Melina pins Natalya with a sunset flip.

Mysterio promo with Matthews followed by JR and Todd Grisham running down the Summerslam card.

Hardys/John Morrison vs. CM Punk/Hart Dynasty. Hardys come out to their old music and titantron for their entrance. Matt gets the fall on CM Punk. Nice match. Hardys and Morrison celebrate after. No shenanigans.

Mickie James Interview - WWE, Trish Stratus & TNA

It was NZPWI’s privilege last Thursday morning to chat with WWE Diva’s Champion, Mickie James.

Mickie debuted on RAW in October of 2005, fresh from OVW training and a stint in TNA. Straight into an angle with Trish Stratus, Mickie has gone on to become a 4-time WWE Women’s Champion, and recently crowned Diva’s Champion.

An integral part of WWE’s roster, Mickie is known for her high-energy, technically gifted wrestling style. As part of the recent RAW tour to New Zealand, Mickie took on then-Divas Champion Maryse in one of the best matches of the night.

Mickie spoke to NZPWI Editor Kirsty Quested about her training, the direction of women’s wrestling in WWE and much more… including some words of advice for the women of wrestling here in New Zealand.

Hi Mickie, how’s it going?

Mickie James: Beautiful, and how are you?

090816_mickie4I’m very very well. So, was the July show in Auckland your first trip out to New Zealand?

You know what, I believe it… was, because every time before that, we just do Australia. I think that was my first time in New Zealand.

And what did you think of the New Zealand crowds?

They were amazing. They really were, they were on fire. The beautiful thing about when we travel to different countries, is that since we don’t go there very often, like once a year or something, when we go there we are so welcomed. With open arms, and they are so excited to see us. Which is good ‘cause we feed off of that, you know?

Yeah, for sure.

You spent a few months in TNA, before signing with WWE; how do you look back on that time, especially Raven’s Flock?

090816_mickie6How do I look back? You know what, I was very grateful for that chapter in my life, definitely. With every experience and every chapter you continue to grow and to get better. I learned a lot from my experience there. And when I left, I left on good terms. Like, they knew, when I went there… obviously, if you have a genuine love for this business you know that the pinnacle is World Wrestling Entertainment. That’s where I’ve always – that’s what I grew up watching, that’s where I dreamed to be, you know? So, I had a lot of fun when I was there, and I enjoyed it, it was a good ride, and it was a good chapter in my life, and I learned tons there, and I use that moving forward in my life and continue to grow and get better, so it was good.

You went on to train in OVW; how different was the training to the TNA and independent styles you’d been in?

It was different in the aspect of… like when I was doing that, before I made it, before I got signed and sent to OVW, I had done several camps. And I trained, I had been wrestling quite a long time and I was working every weekend, I was wrestling these independent shows, and I was doing TNA, doing the TV there, and doing their pay-per-views and continuing to do my shows, so you would learn from all these like… I would always pull the legend, like I would pull them aside and ask them to watch my match. Give me pointers or whatever, whether it was Ricky Morton or you know, you’d get lucky sometimes and you’d have some really killer people on the show that you’d work with, and sometimes you’d work with a bunch of people that are all the same spot you are.

But you continue to learn and get better, and going from that, to being in OVW, waking up every morning, and training from 8 in the morning till 5 in the evening, and still going to the gym, and trying to, you know, make it… it’s weird, ‘cause you went from being on TV and having a name, to having to go and kinda disappear for a little bit of time. But I learned SO much there. Like, I can’t even explain. ‘Cause it’s like, everything I’d learned, through those 5 years of trying to make it, and then getting signed and sitting in OVW for three years, and constantly fine-tuning my craft, only bettered me. And I learned – it humbled me. Because you know, you reach that pinnacle where you’re on TV all the time, and you’re kinda doing all this stuff and you’ve made a pretty good name for yourself on the independent scene… you know, I was working Ring of Honor and I’d been top star on there, I’d been champion up and down the east coast for different federations, small-time stuff, you know.

090816_mickieBut sometimes – that doesn’t get to your head, but it’s like I just grew a lot, I grew so much in OVW, and I’m so very grateful for my time there, I mean, Danny Davis was amazing to me. And I just learned so much from him, and so much from like – they had so many phenomenal trainers come through there, from Lance Storm, and Al Snow, and Bill DeMott, and of course Danny was there the whole time, and he was the smartest man on the planet, I think. Or at least, for me, ‘cause he taught me so much, not just in wrestling but in real life, like how to ground yourself, these little things that keep you grounded and keep you humble, and it just made me get in touch with myself, a lot, as well, and what I wanted from this business, and what… because you can’t have expectations. That’s the thing. Because if you have all these expectations, then you’ll get your heart broken, because you just never know, it’s such an ever-changing business.

So I learned an incredible amount. And I fine-tuned my craft and I became better than I ever was before. And that was really really good for me. But it was definitely quite a shift, you know? And plus, it was my first time leaving, because I’d lived near my family for so long and I had my horses, but for three years I only went home around Christmas, really. And I was away from my horses, which was such a huge part of my life, I would spend at least a few days a week there, and now I didn’t see them at all. And it was just kinda, I got homesick, and I went through like a roller-coaster of like, “oh, am I ever going to make it to TV, I’ve made it this far, I got signed, but I’m sitting here in OVW, I just don’t know what’s going to happen,” and a lot of uncertainty and everything… it just got me in touch with what’s important in life and what you want, and what you need, and it made me realise how much I truly love this business, and how much I was willing to give.

090816_mickie7What was it like debuting on RAW, straight into an angle with Trish Stratus?

Amazing. I am so… because, I’ll tell you this: I was supposed to debut probably 5 times before that. And every time it got like axed. Like it went as far as, I actually went out there, it was going to be CM Punk and I, we were going to be like a team. And we went out there and I managed him, and everything, we had the match, and they pulled the match from the show. It got that far, so… and I pitched ideas and storylines and all this stuff, and it was frustrating, you know you’re sitting there going “oh god please please please” but everything… it worked out perfectly. Because I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Yes it took some time, and I got put out there and pulled back a few times, but that one was the perfect one for me. I think it worked, I’m very grateful for it, because I got to work such a beautiful storyline, and really pull on the people’s emotions, and really… it was really good for me, and almost as a way for… Trish kind of passed the torch to me, and I’m very honoured that I had that moment with her, because she, at the time, she was the top, her and Lita were the top, that was the best.

Well you were - sorry – you were the first Diva to win the Women’s Championship at your WrestleMania debut, you know, and that was huge. What was it like taking home the win in front of that huge crowd?

It was…. I mean, I’ve got chill-bumps just thinking about it. It was just… I cried like a baby. Because you know, after years… and you know, just so much, so many… that whole roller-coaster ride, and like doubting yourself, and then saying “no, never give up, don’t quit,” or whatever, the whole roller-coaster of emotions and stuff that I went through, I cried. As soon as I stepped back through that curtain I was just so… I thanked God, and my mom was there, and it was just amazing, and so… I couldn’t be more grateful and more thankful for the way that I came in, and the people that I’ve had a chance to work with, to grow from, to learn from, and that was just… and you know they say everything happens for a reason, so all those times that I was supposed to come up and then it was like “no OK never mind we’re not gonna do it, we’re not gonna do it,” and then finally I got this one angle, and it was the perfect angle. It was the perfect end for me. You know what I mean? And if I could go back in time I wouldn’t change a thing, because it was amazing. And being in Chicago in front of that crowd, and if you remember correctly, the crowd totally switched halfway through the show, like halfway through the match.

Absolutely, I remember it well.

090816_mickie2The women’s division in WWE has gone through several evolutions over the years, and at the moment it seems to be evolving into a more athletic product, with a greater focus on wrestling ability; what would you say has been the major factor in bringing this about?

I think that it’s like… huh… the thing is, the worst thing in the world is to watch bad wrestling. You know? So they can be the most beautiful women in the world, but if they can’t wrestle then it means nothing. They go out there, and it’s just like… ugh. Like, it’ll turn the biggest wrestling fan away, it’ll make them change the channel. So it’s important, I think… that’s why we’ve really worked hard with the girls to be the best that they can be. You don’t have to be the best in the world, just be the best that you can be. And everybody’s stepped up their game, and everybody’s working hard and everybody’s continuously trying to get better and better. Until, you know… and that’s important, because if you truly love what you do, you would want to be the best that you can be. And I think that’s important, and I think that’s what we’re really looking for now, it’s not just the pretty face. Like, those are a dime a dozen. We can have a million pretty faces but if you don’t have a genuine love and a genuine passion for what you do, then it shows, it shines through, and the people see it, it shines through on camera, it shines through in your work and everything, so I think that that’s what’s changing. People that have come in, now, like you always know the people that truly love what they do, and people that are just there… because. I think that even the casual fan can see that on TV. And that’s what we’re trying to really get rid of, because everybody goes out there and they work and they pour their heart and soul, and there’s nothing worse than someone that doesn’t care.

For sure.

You’re one of the few people on WWE’s roster not to be affected by the Draft. Have you ever thought what it would be like to be working on ECW or SmackDown or is RAW your happy home?

I am, um… like honestly, every time the Draft comes up, you know, because you never know who’s going to get drafted, you never know, it really is a gamble, and so I’m definitely… every time the Draft comes around I’m like “oh gosh, I don’t know what.” I think it would be a cool thing, because you get to work programs with different people that you haven’t worked with before, and stuff like that, but I started on RAW. I love RAW, I’m a RAW girl. I love RAW. But, you never know what God has planned, so whatever it is, I will go along with it, because it’s for a reason, right? That’s one thing I’ve learned in my life – there’s a reason for everything, so whatever it is, it’ll be. And I’ll just be the best that I can be and that’s all I can do.

We, here in New Zealand, we’ve got three wrestling promotions, and up until very recently we really didn’t have very many women, but over the last couple of years, they’re starting to come up through each of the three promotions. They’re working really hard, and they’re doing really well. What would be your advice, to the girls who, like for New Zealand, they’re the first ones to do it. What would be your advice to them to keep moving on and to bring a higher profile to women’s wrestling in New Zealand?

I would say, go out there and prove that we, as women – I mean, it is 2009. And women are starting to run the world. Women are CEO’s of companies and whatever, and there’s no reason that a woman can’t be just as powerful and important and provide just as much energy and provide just as much effort. Like, the beautiful thing to be such a role model, or whatever, as any man out there. To go out there and prove that we are women and we are powerful. Just as important, and just as good. If you can tear the house down just as good as the men’s matches, or even better some nights, than any of the guys matches out there, that’s when you know you’re doing something.

Mickie, thanks so much for your time, we really appreciate it, and all the best for the future and for the Championship.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it.

Smackdown **Spoilers** For This Week 2nd Report

Punk-Morrison

WWEAdikt would like to thank Wrestling News World reader Terrance Meyers sent in the following report:-

Before the taping started, Jim Ross came down to his standard entrance music. He went down alone – I thought this was interesting because Matt Striker and Josh Matthews came in together to Striker’s old titantron and music. Todd Grisham followed afterwards – my section gave him some heat.

Punk picked up major heat for his promo. It’ll be interesting to see on Friday, but at the live event all of us good Canadians were waving our beer at him, and his statement that we’re alcoholics got a fairly strong pop. Don’t mess with us Canadians and our beer. Hardy’s entrance got a huge pop, and I can guarantee you that there was no piped pop either. He did look kind of pitiful as he walked down trying to sell the neck injury, but it wasn’t worth much (more later on that). Afterwards, we got a promo with Teddy taking a call from Vince ordering Hardy into a handicap match against the Hart Dynasty. Pop for Vince, some heat for the announcement, and mixed pop for mention of the Harts.

Dolph Ziggler d. Finlay – Ziggler got a mixed pop, probably mostly heat but I think it’s easy to see and up and coming star in him so it’s tougher to boo. Of course, they put the ever popular Finlay against him which left him with some decent heat throughout the match. Finlay started out in control – that changed when the pair were on the apron and Ziggler hit a spear on Finlay to push him into the ring post, then kicked his head into the post. I don’t think it was long after that when Mike Knox walked out, no entrance music or anything. He stood there looking quite bored on the stage side of the ring for what was actually quite a long match (probably a commercial in the middle). The finish came when Finlay kicked Knox for coming just a little too close, so Knox grabbed the shelleigh and blasted Finlay in the back of the knee for Ziggler to hit his finisher for the three count. Ziggler left quietly afterwards (I think he was a little surprised that he didn’t draw more heat, or maybe this was changed because Rey Mysterio didn’t bother to show, but either way the number one contender for the I.C. Championship walked away from the mid-card beatdown), as Knox got into the ring. He must have read the reviews of his latest work, because he hit that running cross-body on Finlay, pushed him to the outside, threw the steel steps away, and hit a backbreaker over the bottom metal step. He grabbed a mic and informed Finlay that if you damage a certain vertebrae in your back it causes “excruciating pain.” He then walked out to his music as Finlay lay on the steps. Point of interest from someone who hasn’t seen a live event since he was about 7 years old… Those steel steps make NO noise in the live crowd, nor do dropped mics. They kind of bang, but the static that you always hear must be added later.

Promos were not bad. Kane got a pop from the crowd, while Khali was mixed. Come on – we haven’t had a live show in like 5 years, so the vets of the ring are going to get pops and that’s just the way it is!! Maria/Melina sounded like a really bad episode of Sex in the City, but what your live correspondents didn’t mention was that Layla came in and informed Maria that Dolph Ziggler really is quite the catch but don’t expect him to stay with her for very long (as she does the feminine hair fluff motion). Melina informed Layla that she would eat it in the ring later that night for a nice pop. They mentioned Michelle’s return next week – possible tag match (Maria Melina v. Michelle Layla)?

CM Punk d. John Morrison – Punk out to fairly massive heat, Morrison out to a really great pop. This wasn’t so much of a spotfest as it was a great sample of their own styles. Morrison hit that new standing moonsault that he does as well as several springboard moves and huge hits. Punk did I’m sure what will be called by JR a “ground and pound” attack throughout the majority of it. I will say that as Morrison was in the submission position and the crowd would get solidly behind him, he kept missing his cues so the crowd’s clapping got to the maximum before he would actually start to break free – by the time he would get out of the hold, we were calmed back down and tired of clapping – something he needs to work on in the future. Punk responded well to the live crowd too, looking around and glaring much of the time. The finish here came when Morrison went for the Starship Pain, but just as he jumped to springboard off the corner Punk stood up and pushed him so that he canned himself on the top of the ring post. GTS by Punk and he gets the win. What was interesting afterwards is that as Morrison lay in the ring, Punk went to the stage side of the ring and just sat on the outside ring apron as they aired the highlights of the match. Many of the other superstars wandered around or grabbed some heat, but I suspect Punk was legitimately critiquing himself, which was really cool to see. The thing finished and they got the footage of him getting down from the ring and walking up the ramp. Neat match, lots of fun for the live audience, and I’m not sure that Morrison can put on a bad match at this point in his career. He just needs to figure out how to work with the crowd a little bit better before he takes the main event push.

Melina d. Layla – Sorry… BEER RUN time for this guy, though I did hear Melina get a good pop for her entrance move (which is truly impressive, to be sure). While I was outside, you could probably hear a pin drop in the arena – I’m sure that any noise that comes across on TV is just from the washroom/beer runners outside. I’m not a hater of Divas wrestling… but Layla has yet to impress me and Melina needs someone fairly strong to carry her. I do know Melina won with that slam she does where she does the splits across the girl’s chest for the slam to the mat.

Cryme Tyme Promo was not bad, but they looked royally hurt that they weren’t getting the pops. They came out and ran their mouths until you couldn’t hear them over the Y2J chants. They stopped and looked around quite shocked (Hey morons – the guy’s the best thing this country has contributed to your show since Brett Hart and Chris Benoit – think we’re going to cheer for two guys doing a pretty sad gangster gimmick? WRONG). They converted it into a “Oh, I think they mean Christina” comment, which simply turned them heel in our eyes. They finished their promo with a “Tag Team Titles” “YEAH YEAH” chant, which just barely caught on.

Big Show (w/Y2J) d. JTG (w/Shad) – You could tell that we were NOT winning ourselves over with WWE Creative last night – they did everything in their power to hide Jericho’s existence. They did not play the new merged theme (the one with both of their songs going in it), but only played Big Show’s theme. Jericho walked out in a suit, didn’t even carry his titles, and quietly walked around to the announce table. When Jericho left, Show quit getting the pop, but it was still not definite heat like everywhere else on the planet. I want to clarify – the match was between Show and JTG – Shad stayed on ringside opposite hard camera. Just in case you were surprised that Show beat Shad, this was not the case. JTG played a typical smaller tag partner damsel in distress much of the match, as Show manhandled him. At one point, Show threw JTG over the ropes by the announce table, and as Shad went to help him Jericho stood up. I’m not going to lie – at that moment it looked like Jericho may have gotten a bigger pop than Hardy. He sat back down as JR berated him for potentially getting involved, and Shad returned to his ringside spot. The finish came when JTG was outside the ring again, Jericho stood up and took out Shad, leaving JTG to take a MASSIVE Showstopper (It truly is something you have to see in real life to appreciate) followed by the Colossal Clutch (thank God he quit using that atrocious knockout punch). JTG was simply out – he didn’t tap, and the ref called for the bell. Show picked up a bit of heat until he was rejoined by Jericho, who again got a pop. After the match, Shad ran in and drove Show out of the ring, yelling at Jericho and Show as they backed up the ramp. Match prediction #2 next week: Show v. Shad.

The last promo with Khali and Kane got another mixed reaction from the crowd. I think it was mostly heat, but we were already a bit of a pro-heel crowd so it was difficult to tell. Apparently Singh is Khali’s brother now… I wonder if the Brothers of Destruction will unite against the Brothers Khali…

The Hart Dynasty d. Jeff Hardy – Jeff got another massive pop, but it wasn’t fantastic. What I will say is this: he completely forgot to sell the neck during his second entrance. He walked in almost normal (maybe he’ll look stiffer on TV), and did the surfing-on-the-second rope bit at all four corners. The mention of the neck injury was basically gone by the time he was sitting in the corner waiting for the Hart Dynasty. As for the Harts, I can’t say that they got the pop of the night, but they got a truly impressive pop.

Insert commentary here, cut out for space if needed

Ok… So we’re in Canada, we’re in Alberta, We’re in Edmonton. We have this new heel faction from Calgary, Alberta, Canada (the rivalry between Calgary and Edmonton may be one of the fiercest on the planet, truly – watch a hockey game sometime it’s second only to Toronto/Montreal). How do we possibly get them heat? We can’t just bury them behind the announce desk like Jericho, so let’s put them with the most popular superstar on the roster. Oh crap. That did NOT work. MAYBE we should have used a promo off the air to get some heat? The main event crowd noise is cooked – these guys picked up so much of a pop that you thought it was face Michaels vs. face HHH in the ring. Can I please write the promo? Something along the following: “You know, it’s great to be here in Edmonton (pop), here in Rexall Place (pop)… where the Calgary Flames so routinely destroy this pathetic hockey club (HEAT).” A few seconds later, turn on the live cameras and BANG – cheap heat but hey they used it on RAW. They truly didn’t slam Canada much here at all – we can deal with it, you want heat on your heels? Make them draw heat it’s not that hard… ANYWAYS

/end commentary and rant

This was indeed a fairly impressive match. The Harts are looking good together, but they’re too green to quite isolate injured areas, so their moves were simply their standard generic beatdown fare. Strong match that ended in a springboard Hart Attack by Tyson for the three count. Afterwards, Punk ran out, grabbed a chair and started to beat down Hardy again as the Harts looked on. Morrison booked it in and nailed Punk (clearly this feud is ready for post-Summerslam), sent him out of the ring until he took on the Harts. The Dynasty got the upper hand until Matt ran in. I honestly thought he was Chavo at first, because he wears a white headband, but it was definitely Matt who made the save. Proud to say that I started a “HARDYS” chant. The Harts and Punk fled and stood on the stage while Matt extended his hand to Jeff, helped him up, the two had that awkward staring moment that they’ve been having, and then Morrison shook Matt’s hand. The three celebrated, but then turned and stared down the Harts and CM Punk. Main event next week (not announced but so patently obvious that it hurts): Hart Dynasty and CM Punk vs. The Hardy Boyz and John Morrison (six man tag).

Dark Match: Jeff Hardy d. CM Punk in a Cage Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship – Dark match was cool, but it was over after a whisper in the wind and a swanton bomb, followed by Jeff celebrating in the ring. The cage was much too rickety to do anything (it wasn’t suspended above the ring but was put together quickly following the main event) so they kept the match short. Punk simply lay in the ring but now that the cameras weren’t rolling we gave him props for being a phenomenal heel.

Match of the Night: Easily Morrison v. Punk

Pops:

Y2J (someone tried a “Jericho” chant, but it failed early)

Hardy Boyz Reunited

The Hart Dynasty

Heat:

CM Punk (REALLY good heat)

Smackdown **Spoilers** For 7/08/09

Championship Rematch

CM Punk has enacted his rematch clause and will face World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy for the title this Friday on SmackDown. Can The Charismatic Enigma hold on to his cherished gold?

COMPLETE SPOILERS BELOW:

*Smackdown opens with video on Morrison vs. Hardy.

*CM Punk comes out and says he will stay the course and teach the fans the difference between right and wrong, even if so far all his work just seems to make the fans love Jeff Hardy more. He said that this is just another obstacle in his life that he will overcome. They showed Punk’s attack on Hardy last week. He said the fans love Hardy because he is just like them and none of them have the strength to be straightedge. He said none of them can be strong like him. Punk said they can boo him but the truth sometimes hurts and he will continue to tell it. The crowd was all over Punk. He accused the crowd of gobbling prescription medicine like Pez. He went on and on about all the vices people have that he doesn’t do…smoking, marijuana, alcohol. He told the fans that they need a straight World champion…they need CM Punk.

*World title CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy. Hardy attacked Punk before the bell. Officials pulled them apart. Out came Vince McMahon, who ripped on Teddy Long for not keeping control. He demanded everyone return to the back and said that since Long couldn’t control them, Vince will appoint a guest enforcer to maintain control….and he’ll make everyone wait and find out. Punk and Hardy began brawling again.

*In a really good match, John Morrison pinned Tyson Kidd after a split legged twisting press. Morrison slipped on a springboard kick so expect that to be edited out as he did the move a second time. Really good back and forth match with lots of near falls, highspots and some stiff kicks.

*Punk vs. Hardy with mystery enforcer is still on for later.

*By the way, The crowd was really into Morrison as a babyface.

*Slam Master J defeated Charlie Haas with a top rope splash. J wasn’t over with the crowd live.

*R-Truth vs. Mike Knox vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Finlay for WWE Intercontinental championship shot at Summerslam. Rey Mysterio does commentary at ringside. Lots of fast action. Truth does dive over top on Knox. Finlay goes for Emerald Frosion on Ziggler but Knox hits boot to face. Killings hits lariat off ropes for 2. Ziggler tosses Killings out of ring. Finlay cracks Knox with shillelagh. Ziggler nails Finlay with finisher and scores pin.

*Backstage, Maria and Melina talked about Maria’s relationship with Dolph. Melina said she was happy for Maria but she hears bad things about Ziggler in the locker room. Maria says the Dolph in the ring isn’t how he is outside of it and he treats her good. Melina said she was happy for her but to be careful.

*Chris Jericho vs. JTG. Solid back and forth match. Jericho nailed the Codebreaker on JTG but his arm and leg were under the bottom rope so ref wouldn’t count. Jericho jawed with the ref and Shad Gaspard, then pulled JTG to the center. He went to pick up JTG but was pulled into an inside cradle and pinned. Big reaction for Cryme Time since they are from Brooklyn.

*Great Khali destroyed Ricky Ortiz. Kane came out from under ring and tossed Khali out of the ring, then went after Runjin Singh and dragged him through the crowd out of the Arena. Khali slowly followed through the crowd 2 minutes later, possibly after a commercial break I’m guessing.

*Matt Hardy is introduced as the special enforcer for the World title match.

*Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk. Jeff gets in Matt’s face but Matt won’t even look him in the eye, glaring away. Hardy is outside of ring enforcer. They went back and forth with a solid bout. Hardy went to the top but Punk cut him off. Punk nailed a superplex off the top for a two count. Punk nailed a martial arts combination and went for GTS but Hardy avoided. Punk rolled up Hardy but was kicked out of the ring. Hardy did a dive out onto Punk. The Hardys faced off outside. Punk hit a sliding kick but Jeff moved and Matt got hit. Jeff took Punk down and went for the Swanton. Punk got his knees up and went for the pin but at 2, Matt pulled the referee out of the ring. Punk began screaming at Matt but Jeff rolled him up from behind and Matt counted a fast three. A shocked Punk attacked Jeff and beat his head into the announcing table, then beat him with a chair. He stuck Hardys head in a chair and ran him into the ringpost.

Teddy Long came out and asked Punk if he was proud of himself and Punk said he was because Matt Hardy screwed him. Punk said he was and he wanted his rematch. Long said if Hardy can defend the title by Summerslam, Punk will get it…in a TLC match. Punk was pissed about the stipulation.

Jeff Hardy Status & Possible Storyline **Spoilers**

According to Sources here are some storyline **possible** Spoilers

-- There are conflicting reports on Jeff Hardy's status. WWE has put Hardy's name back in house show advertisements for October and had creative start booking programs involving Hardy for September, but some of those close to him are still under the impression he will be wrapping up this month.

-- No women's match on the WWE Summerslam pay-per-view will resemble the bouts plans prior to this past weekend.

-- All indications, especially coming out of RAW, are that WWE is running Triple H and Shawn Michaels vs. Legacy at Summerslam, but the company has at least considered teasing the Michaels comeback until after the event.

-- Sources add that it would not be a surprise to witness something like Triple H vs. Ted DiBiase or another Triple H vs. Randy Orton on television in the coming weeks.

-- There had been talk of Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz, but with Miz apparently "banned from RAW" and "banned from Summerslam," it does not appear WWE still intends to head in that direction.

-- One idea being thrown around involves a full-fledged Maria heel turn (as opposed to her playing the bimbo character to heel beau Dolph Ziggler).

RAW Opener: Jeremy Piven & Dr. Ken, The Miz, John Cena

RAW opens with the introduction of Jeremy Piven and "Dr." Ken Jeong. Piven comes out in a convertible and starts his walk to the ring. He goes back to the trunk and opens it, and out pops Dr. Ken in a pimp suit similar to his role in the movie"The Hangover" (where he was nude). Jeong is a crazy man in the ring who won't shut up. Piven is trying to get his plugs out and hit certain memorized points. Out comes The Miz, who gets in Piven's face. Piven calls him "lame-Miz." The two continue to go back and forth when out comes John Cena. Miz says he wants a match with Cena. Cena tells Piven he beat him in two minutes last week so make it interesting. Piven makes Cena vs. Miz tonight in a Lumberjack match. He says if Miz loses he is banned from "Summerfest" (which Cena corrected to SummerSlam). Piven says if he loses, Miz will also be banned from RAW for life. So it's official.

He is trash talking Big Show and of course, behind him, unbeknowst to him, stands the Big Show. Piven shoves a pacifier in Dr. Ken's mouth when he spazzes out some more. Piven mocks Big Show for being fat and for getting punked by Shaq. Big Show challenges Piven. Piven, with no transition, says it'll be Big Show vs. Kofi Kingston for the MVP title tonight. Big Show likes the idea - so it's on.

Legacy comes out first followed by "The Game". Triple H is controlling the action early on. HHH avoiding double-team attempts by Legacy to keep things going his way as we head to a mid-match commercial. We return to find out that DiBiase attacked HHH behind the ref's back while Rhodes was the legal man. This shifts the momentum as Rhodes is controlling HHH as we return to live action. HHH slowly trying to come back, but DiBiase runs in for a double-team attack to keep things going for Legacy. Rhodes misses a huge moonsault and lands hard. Both guys are down now, Rhodes trying to crawl to DiBiase for the tag while HHH tries to get back to his feet. HHH gets up first and knocks DiBiase off the corner so Rhodes couldn't tag him. "The Game" now going to work on Rhodes. DiBiase tries to interfere but HHH knocks him out of the way with ease. Triple H tries to hit Rhodes with the pedigree but DiBiase comes from behind and hits the dream-street. Rhodes quickly covers HHH but only gets two. Rhodes picks HHH up and hits the cross-Rhodes on him and gets the pin for the victory.

Winners: Legacy

After The Match: HHH Bringing Back D-Generation X

As Legacy is walking up the ramp, HHH is laying on the ground with a mic saying "ouch". He says that hurt and didn't go as he planned. He slowly crawls up the ropes and asks if he lost because Legacy is just that good. He says maybe they're too much for me. HHH says he used to be good at this gang warfare stuff. He said he had gangs, he beat up everybody. He says maybe he should start another group, or maybe he'll bring one back. He says maybe I'll bring back Evolution. The crowd shouts "no". HHH says it won't work because Randy is a jerk, Batista is hurt all the time, and Ric Flair is signing autographs in some shop or something (ouch). HHH says he has a better idea - maybe he'll just make one phone call. He tells Legacy he's going to make that phone call and if they're not down with that - he's got two words for ya. HHH's music hits to end the segment.

-A commercial airs confirming CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy for the World championship this Friday night on Smackdown!

Backstage: Piven, Dr. Ken & Chavo Guerrero

Backstage we see Piven and Dr. Ken with the Divas. This time Chavo Guerrero walks in. He pretends to be a big fan and mocks Piven, confusing him with Joe Rogan and Jon Faverau. Piven calls Chavo "Charo" and talks about his problems with Hornswoggle lately. He asks if he can finally beat him, Chavo says he can. Before leaving, Chavo acts excited to see Dr. Ken, confusing him with George Takei.

Carlito vs. Primo

A video package is shown while Carlito comes to the ring detailing the history between he and Primo. Primo makes his way to the ring and the two will have a one-on-one match. Carlito with the early advantage, bullying Primo around. Primo picking up the pace now, trying to turn things around. He gets in a little bit of offense until Carlito stops him in his tracks. Primo with a quick roll-up out of nowhere but only gets two. Carlito hits the back-stabber and gets the pinfall victory.

Winner: Carlito

Chavo Guerrero vs. Mark Henry

Chavo makes his way to the ring as a video package shows his 0-4 efforts against Hornswoggle the past few weeks. As the clip ends, Chavo looks confident tonight he'll end the streak. Jeremy Piven and Dr. Ken show up on the titan-tron and say Hornswoggle caught the adult chicken pox and couldn't make it tonight. They said replacing him will be his cousin, Mark-swoggle. Out comes Mark Henry. Lots of bad Mark-swoggle jokes on commentary. Henry is squashing Chavo the whole time thus far. Henry hits the world's strongest slam and gets the easy pinfall victory.

Winner: Mark Henry

After The Match:

After the match, Henry goes under the ring and out pops Hornswoggle. Henry helps Hornswoggle into the ring and pulls Chavo into the corner for him. "Tadpole" chant breaks out as Hornswoggle climbs to the top rope. He hits the tadpole splash and his music hits as Henry and Hornswoggle dance around. Jesus.

Backstage: Piven, Dr. Ken & Randy Orton

Backstage, Piven and Dr. Ken are hanging out when in comes Randy Orton. Piven says he knows Orton is mad because he's not fighting tonight but he has an idea. Orton asks what the idea is. Piven explains that he and Dr. Ken feel Orton should be the ring announcer for John Cena's match tonight. Orton is insulted and asks them if he kicked Vince McMahon in the skull, what makes them think he won't do the same to them. Dr. Ken gets serious and says this was fun until now. Piven says they'll figure something out as they walk away.

U.S. Title:
Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Big Show

U.S. champion Kingston is out first for some reason. Big Show is out next, accompanied by his tag-champion partner Chris Jericho, who is in a suit. Jericho joins Cole and Lawler for commentary for this match. Big Show squashing Kingston in the ring while Jericho puts over what a monster Big Show is on commentary. Big Show slams Kingston and hits the Vader-bomb on him. He tries to pin him but Kingston gets his foot on the ropes to break the count at two. Big Show climbs up for another Vader-bomb but Kingston gets up and is throwing kicks. Kingston hits the trouble and paradise and climbs to the top. He hits a monsterous double leg-drop and pins him for a two count. Big Show with Kingston in the corner now, lighting up his ribs with body punches. He refuses to listen to the refs commands to stop and gets disqualified.

Backstage: Triple H On The Phone

Backstage we see Triple H on the phone. He tells the person he's got a proposition for them. Triple H says "you've said a million times before you're not coming back". He tells the person he needs to know just one thing - are you ready? "Hello, hello...." the person hung up on him. Triple H looks disappointed.

-A video trailer is introduced for Jeremy Piven's movie.

LumberJack Match:
John Cena vs. The Miz

Cena is out first, followed by The Miz. We head to commercial. The lumberjacks are ringside now. Cena controlling the action early on. Miz is thrown out to the lumberjacks and he is thrown back in. Miz has Cena outside now and Chris Masters applies the Masterlock to Cena. Cena is fading down. Cena is thrown back in the ring and Miz capitalizes on Cena still being beat up from the Masterlock. Dr. Ken is acting like a heel now. I guess WWE realized his dumbass actions weren't going to get over with the RAW audience and decided to switch it mid-show. Cena is thrown out again and Randy Orton and Legacy are beating him down outside the ring. They slam him into the ringside steps. Orton stomps away for a while and Legacy throws him back in the ring. Miz gets Dr. Ken's pimp cane, swings, but Cena ducks and hits the attitude adjustment for the pinfall and the victory.

Winner: John Cena

After The Match:

Jeremy Piven climbs the top rope and has an evil look on his face. Cena turns around and Piven dives. Cena catches him. Some of the heel lumberjacks try and come in for the save, but Cena swings Piven's body around to clear the ring. Dr. Ken hits Cena from behind with his pimp cane as Piven scoots out of the ring. It's just Cena and Dr. Ken. Dr. Ken is claiming it wasn't him, apologizing, yelling "the good guys" won, etc. Cena eventually extends his hand for a shake. He shakes Dr. Ken's hand, raises his arm in victory and then picks him up and throws him over the top rope into the lumberjacks.
